I just had to share my boy's story....
I adopted him back in February of 2004,.. he was my sweet valentine.
His name was Max when I adopted him, but since we already had a Max in
our home, I thought, new beginning, and new home, needs a new name. He
is now my Rocky, and his name fits him perfectly. He is strong and
playful, brave, and tough. He is my snuggle boy when I need a hug, he
is my clown when i need to laugh, and he loves me when I am
un-loveable. He has come along way with his training... A few
behavioral issues, and marking issues, but now, he is now a perfect
gentleman. It may have taken two years and a ton of patience, but we
made it. Rocky also has a kitty-sister in our home. They love each
other and she will spend hours cleaning Rocky's ears for him. He always
falls asleep while she cleans and grooms him. Her name is Fonzi and
won’t pose for any photos. But boy can she con him into getting into
trouble with her. They work as a team to open my Tupperware cookie
jars, (sometimes hiding their favorites "Krispy-Kremes" in them). She
gets up on the counter, (or! on top of the fridge) and knocks them
off,.. and he has the strength to open the them up. And then it's
cookies or doughnuts for everyone! But something was missing from our
home, his sad eyes seemed to be saying to me... he wanted a
puppy-sister. So, last month we adopted a baby sister for him. Her name
is Lilly and she is a one year old English Bulldog. She has is a
perfect little lady, with her only issues being medical and not
behavioral. He loves her and she loves to play and play and play with
him. I am sending along some photos for you to see how happy Rocky is
now in his new home, and with his new sister.
Thanks for everything you do at Midwest! Blessings! Mary Overstreet

Well, I just wanted to share the best news since I have been doing
rescue. As some of you may know, my foster Brutz came from a puppy
mill. He was purchased at an auction for $25 to keep him from being
knocked in the head and thrown in the dumpster. He came in heartworm
positive, with very bad teeth and his digestive system was so screwed
up he could not eat anything without getting severe bloody diarrhea.
For the first few weeks I was not sure this poor thing was going to
survive. But he was a real love bug. He never stopped smiling no
matter what happened. He lost eight teeth, he had to have heartworm
treatment, We had to try several foods to find something that did not
make him sick and in pain. Through all of this it also became
painfully obvious that he WAS NOT even close to housebroken. Because
of his life in a mill, he would often mess his crate and lift his leg
EVERYWAY. Well after several months of rehab, I had him using a
doggie door some of the time. His health improved and he was doing
great on the Science Diet WD. So we decided to put him up and the
website. I really didn't think he had any chance because of the
housebreaking issue.
Two weeks ago I was contacted by a great older lady that thought she
might consider him. We talked and I told her point blank the issues.
I fell in love with her right away when I asked her how she would
discipline the dog if he did something wrong, she said, "I don't know
kiss him?"
Well folks, that was the answer I wanted to hear. This guy doesn't
have a bad bone in his body, and he deserves love after what he has
been through. So she came to meet him. They fell for each other at
once. It was love at first sight. He went home with her that day. I
held my breath for the first few days. I have had a few failed
adoptions, so my heart was not willing to be happy and then go
through the disappointment.
Now, the vote is in and yes, you guessed it, he is staying!!!!!! he
sleeps with her every night, Under the covers of course, the family
loves him and his picture has traveled to family all over the
country. The neighbors love him and he has a buddy to take walks
with. So far only ONE yes ONE accident as she walks him several times
a day.
I tell ya, I just am soooooo happy. this dog has been through Hell
and now he is in a great home with nothing but love. This is the
reason for rescue. Sorry to go on and on, I just wanted to share a
great rescue story. We all need to remember why we do this and here
is a great reminder. Rick and Renee Mickam

I
was not so sure about adopting Jiggs, as he was older than some of the
other dogs. Jiggs is almost 7. His foster family had a tumor removed
from his left ear. Jiggs has a cataract and also pretty bad allergies.
I was nervous at first about meeting him, as I was not so sure about
how to take care of a dog with special needs. Jiggs gets pretty excited
when he goes for walks and can have a hilarious case of 'attention
deficit disorder' from all of the activity. When I first met him at the
foster home, he was interested in me but I think he was more interested
in the fact that there was excitement going on! I took him outside for
a little walk to see how we got along. I liked Jiggs, but was still not
convinced that he should go home with me. My parents were with me and
we decided to sit in the car to talk about him. He sat right on my lap.
My mom all of a sudden proclaimed, "If Amanda is supposed to adopt
Jiggs, have him give her a kiss!" He turned right around and gave me a
big lick on the cheek. THAT WAS IT! He came home with me that day.
Jiggs' coat was thinned from his scratching and he had small scabs on
his chest. I knew of a good dermatology vet specialist in Chicago and
made an appointment for him right away. We have his allergies almost
under control now and he looks SO MUCH BETTER! (You can tell from his
handsome photos!) People always think that he is a puppy, because he
has such a cute, young face. He also is very playful. He makes me laugh
so hard when he gets his paws on a soccer or basketball. He can almost
walk on the ball! He also does fun flips in the air to try and get at
the ball if I hold it up in the air. He is the BEST tug-of-war player.
Jiggs is the most well behaved dog. He never chews on anything and he
listens to me when I call him. He likes to cuddle on the couch with me
and he loves to go for walks. He has become the pride and joy of my
life. Jiggs needed a good home and he was just what I needed. I am
thankful to MWBTR for encouraging me to think outside the box and take
a chance on Jiggs. He is the best fit for me and I look forward to all
of our happy times together. Thank you! Amanda Schonfeld

ClaraBelle
is the little lady who came to us as an owner surrender from a pet
hoarding situation. She had a serious case of sarcoptic mange (the
infectious type) with open wounds, scant hair (none on her little
corkscrew tail), LP issues with both hind legs and no known Vet care.
This Grand Dame turned 6 yrs old on December 15th and has proven to be
quite an assest with Our Gal Zoe and new foster Rudy. Clara has taught
Zoe how to play tug, bitey face, nuzzel and to just be a dog! Rudy is
quickly learning the ropes from ClaraBelle and is settling in nicely. I
am happy to include ClaraBelle's most recent photo. I would also like
to say thanks to all who have supported me in the decision to adopt
ClaraBelle- she is my husbands little shadow and as a surprise to him,
from me, she will be the newest member of our family this Christmas
(2006). Deni Burton
