adoptable dogs updates

We have many dogs available for adoption. Some of them have adoption restrictions, such as no cats, no kids, or no other dogs. Some may have special medical needs. Be aware that not all kid friendly dogs are dog friendly.  Dogs that are not dog friendly cannot live with other dogs! We also have senior dogs. They make just as good a companion as a younger dogs.
Thank you for your patience as we try to match you with your perfect pet!!
We appreciate every one of you.

Otis - IL862

**Otis will be available for adoption in another week or so.**

Otis is a two-year-old pug who came in to rescue very much withdrawn, unsure of people, and not willing to eat. In his foster home, he has warmed up to people and has become very attached to his foster brother. He’s now eating well. When Otis came in, it was noted that he had extreme atrophy of the right rear leg. After further investigation, it was found that he had a fractured femur or thigh bone, which has now been surgically corrected. He is still at the vet recovering and will hopefully come back to his foster home in another week or so. He is a very, very, loving, sweet boy who loves snuggles and remains finicky about his treats.

Princess Buttercup - IL871

Princess Buttercup is a rescued breeding dog that is learning the good life. Soft beds and kind hands have been her new favorite thing. She is still settling in and has started walking over to the door to go outside. She just has to be watched to catch it. She does a great job following the resident pug and learning from him. She has found a little bit of her voice and can be demanding. We simply redirect with a toy or ignore. She is a pug named Princess Buttercup so she does have certain expectations. She is a great little dog and deserves the best. As you wish Princess Buttercup.

Ruby is a sweetheart. She was loved and very much cared for by her previous owner. She is trained well in all of the important areas. Ruby will sometimes bark when she hears someone new walk in the front door. She minds her own business, but will gladly accept rubs and attention as long as you want to give it. She will sleep on the sofa all day, cuddle up next to her humans, sit in your lap and likes to bury herself in the covers of the bed at night. She will also go on adventures with you as she's up for almost anything! Ruby has a ‘sister’ named Mags that she has been with for quite a while and they should remain as a pair. They just do well together! Don’t let her age or missing eye fool you! This girl still has lot of life to give!

Mags (Maggie) - MI1045

**Mags and Ruby are sisters. They would benefit being adopted together.**

Mags is a true Boston Terrier! She is always ready and willing to get the party started! She will play with her bonded ‘sister’ Ruby, rough-house with her foster’s fosters, or go for walks and hikes all day long! Mags likes running laps and smelling new smells in the backyard is good fun for her. She is an attention hog! She will cuddle next you on the sofa or chair and occasionally nudge you for some quick rubs from time to time. She’s been known to stand in your lap and block your view of the TV until she gets her rubs and kisses! She was very much loved and cared for by her previous owners, and it shows in day-to-day life. Potty trained, socialized fairly well, playful with humans of all ages (might smother infants with kisses though!) and a bit of a guard dog if she hears the front door at an unusual time. She really is what any of us would want in a Boston Terrier. Meet her and find out!

Sierra is a good girl but she needs a lot of time and patience. She was a puppy mill dog and didn't have a lot of interaction with people. When she came to us, she didn’t come of her crate. She is slowly learning to trust people and becoming familiar with a collar and leash. Sierra is very scared of loud noises and she is also afraid of kids. A home with children is not recommended. She’s doesn’t like fast movements. She will sniff you and if she feels safe, will let you pet her. She uses pee pads currently and is not house trained. Betsie is a 4-year-old spayed Boston terrier with Megaesophagus. Her megaesophagus is controlled and she doesn’t currently need fed upright she just has a strict diet and can’t have any treats. She had a Persistent Right Aortic Arch causing her megaesophagus and I had it surgically repaired at OSU. She is dog selective and would do best as an only dog or with submissive dogs. She has a high prey drive and cannot live in a home with cats. She would love a fenced in yard as her recall isn’t great but she does okay on a tie out. She is potty trained but like any little dog if it’s raining or the grass is too high, she will tinkle on the floor. I will provide all vet care and will also provide financial assistance to buy her dog food as she has to eat a specific kind (Purina Pro Plan Sensitive Skin and Stomach Small Breed). She is such a happy girl and loves her “stuffies”. She loves to get the zoomies when you get home and then cuddle up with you right after! She is rambunctious and loves to go on walks to explore! We are a 100% foster-based rescue, devoted to helping Boston, Boston mixes, special needs Boston's, we have also saved other dogs in need of rescue and education. Our adoption process involves multiple steps and typically can take up to 4 weeks from the time we receive your application to the time your adoption is finalized. This process can take longer depending on the response from references. We reserve the right to deny any application without explanation.

1.  We require that all applicants be at least 20 years old when applying to adopt one of our dogs.

2.  All of our dogs and/or puppies are in foster homes. We do not schedule private “Meet and Greets” without an approved application. Our Adoption Fee is $450 for age 0 to 7 yrs; $275 for 8 years and up.

3.  We can adopt an animal ‘out of state’, but you must be willing to travel to where the pet is being fostered for a meet-n-greet, and transport the animal yourself after the adoption.

4.  We cannot place a hold on a dog for you. If you are not ready to adopt because of a vacation or other event, please do not reach out about adopting until you are ready.

5. If you have other animals (dogs/cats) in your home, they must be up-to-date on vaccinations, heartworm testing and preventions (dogs), and spayed/neutered. We will verify this with your veterinarian. If your animals are not up to date, your application will be denied.

6.  If you do not own the property you live in, you must provide the owner/landlord’s name and phone number. We will contact them to verify that you are permitted to have a pet.

7.  If you are getting ready to move or are in the process of moving, please do not complete an application until after you are settled in your new home.
Be advised that we reserve the right to conduct a Home Visit [either in person or via zoom] before placing an animal with you.

9.  Once your online application is submitted, it can take our volunteers up to four weeks to process it. If we have questions about your application, we will email you. Please make sure to check your spam and other folders, for our messages!

10. Once your application is approved, you will receive an email giving you directions on who to contact regarding adoption. The team processing applications then sends out your information to foster homes regarding possible matches for the foster dog.
The foster home will then contact you via email and/or phone. If you do not respond promptly to their email or phone call, they will move on to the next applicant.

11.  Once you have talked with the foster home and arranged for a meet-n-greet; and have met the dog. You are able to adopt at the time of the meet-n-greet. If you are unsure of adopting at the meet-n-greet [we ask you to think about it for 24 hour minimum] to decide on finalizing the adoption.

12.  Once your new pet is home with you, we strongly recommend decompression, i.e., keeping the dog at home for three to five days and allowing it to just get acquainted with you and the house. Before going to 10 places or visiting 10 people (a handout will be provided at time of adoption regarding decompression).

13.  We recommend taking the dog to your veterinarian within 10 days of adoption for a general check-up. This gets your dog established with the veterinarian and you can provide them with copies of the records you are provided at the time of adoption.

14.  If you are interested in multiple dogs, please indicate it appropriately on your application. Once your application is approved your information will be sent to one foster parent at a time to avoid any confusion with multiple people reaching out to you.

15.  Your application will be saved on file for one year and will be used for all dogs you would be interested in that time-frame. No need to keep filling out applications!

Adoption application approval means you are approved to adopt an animal from us, it does not mean you are necessarily approved for the animal you applied for, i.e., 1) The dog may already be adopted; 2) There may be specific circumstances in your home that do not make it a good fit for that dog, but you may be a fit for a different dog.
